Jim Sumerfield comes to TREP after a 20 year career in the Theatre Department of Allegheny College. Serving first as the Assistant Technical Director and later as Technical Director, Jim’s tenure at Allegheny saw the growth and development of the technical theatre curriculum, the construction of the Vukovich Center for the Communication Arts, and numerous milestone events of the College. Jim brings a significant history of creative collaboration and problem solving to TREP’s clients, as well as an eye for design. Starting from his education as a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Theatre at Allegheny College, Jim’s career has included touring opera as a technician with The San Francisco Opera Center, a/v installation work with RCI Systems in Rockville, MD and other live event production work and lighting design. Jim is also proud of his participation with the Long Reach Long Riders, which is a self-described “horde” of entertainment technicians who share their passion for motorcycling by joining together annually for a ride to raise funds for two Entertainment focused charities, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids and Behind the Scenes. This group has raised over $500K over the past 12 years, while visiting all corners of the US and parts of Canada on motorcycles, bringing smiles and kazoos to people everywhere.
